A vote for St Pete. Most of the good schools are application lottery in January, so you may have to start in a private and then move to public.

PP. Also check out the area zoned for Blankner k-8 in Orlando. That’s a great school. The public high school in that area, Boone, is good (but not great, as tends to be the case in Florida).

It's on a busy road, which is why you can get a fully renovated home with a pool and zoned for excellent schools listed at $469,900. It's a very safe area, and your kids could walk to their friends' homes, to get ice cream, etc. by themselves in that area. There's also a weekly art/farmer's market and lots of small festival type stuff going on there.

OP, Corrine Dr. is super busy. You don’t want to live right there. The general area is nice though. Orlando is still incredibly overpriced as a result of the pandemic migration to FL and the associated housing bubble. You won’t get much for your money there with a $500k budget. I like the St. John’s County recommendation. I’d also check out Gainesville. You’ll get more for your money there, and it’s a nice college town with some good schools.

I’m from Florida. If I still had school aged kids, I would look just south of Jax in St Johns County. That’s where you’ll find outstanding schools. Look at Bartram Trail, Creekside, Ponte Vedra, and Nease high schools. The schools that feed into those high schools are all very, very good. With your budget, Julington Creek is a great option. If you can find a house at your price point, Nocatee would be even better.

I posted here because the input would be from a perspective of people who have atleast lived in the DMV at some point in their lives vs a Florida board filled with lifelong Floridians. Looking for a different perspective. For example, if you are from here you would compare FL schools differently and could comment that public is going to work there. If I posted on saw FL board the perspective woul be different.
I know I have read several posts on DCUM from people that have relocated or suggested Florida as a place to relocate to.

I am remote but have to be in Florida. So literally anywhere is game. Budget is 500k if using public school if I have to go private budget would be less. I am hoping there are some areas that have good public schools but I have no clue. Mixed race family if that matters
