I waited until 3 with both my kids. We tried earlier but it just didn’t click with either of them. After it finally clicked, we had zero accidents with my son and two with my daughter. I didn’t have the patience for intense potty training and monitoring them nonstop so that’s why we went this route.

I’d take her more frequently do you set her up for success.

To me, potty training is a process, and it's not like one day it's finished; it's more like, I suddenly realized I've gone out without feeling the need to tote spare undies for my kid for the last two weeks. Progress! I started right at 2 with my DC. There were months of consistency (pee before poop) and then a week of regression here and there. I stayed consistent throughout, and followed our daycare's policy -- 2 accidents in one day and the child goes in a Pull-Up.

My kid who had a lot of accidents while training has gone on to be a kid who has more accidents than usual as a preschooler/kindergartener. She has ADHD and it is absolutely a function of inattentiveness and hyper focus. And after going through this with her, I've realized I also did this as a kid -- had more accidents than other kids because I had trouble paying attention to the signals or would get so engrossed in what I was doing that I ignored the signals.

So I've concluded some people are just like this and it might take longer to train. To be clear, this child is now potty trained (she's 6) and she has an accident maybe every three months. And generally I can point to a change in schedule or an external stressor that likely contributed (like a trying day at school, recent travel, or a bad night's sleep). ADHD can be made worse by those kinds of things so it makes sense. But it's not a big a deal and at this point she can clean it up herself and might just ask for a little help.

My kid trained at 3 and had accidents well past when I would have considered him proficient at using the potty. I wouldn't stress too much. Seems normal to me.

Just one thing: if she's having an accident 30 mins after she uses the bathroom, she's not fully expressing. Maybe try to keep her on the potty for a few seconds longer?

My older two trained quickly and once they trained, they did not have accidents. I think total they had three accidents before they were fully trained. My youngest has been potty training for three weeks. She mostly alerts, but I also ask make sure she goes. We had a few poop accidents during the first week, but that is getting much better. But, we have had pee accidents. Some days there are no accidents and other times she uses the potty and then 30 min later she pees her pants.

I am torn if we need to take a step back. Is this "normal"? Is this expected? She just turned 2, if that matters.
