I used to be a 1st grade teacher and it was a big deal. Counting the days and talking about groups of 10 builds number sense and helps kids learn about place value, tens, and ones.

Just want parents need. Another dress up day when Halloween is around the corner!

This whole 100th day of school celebration feels a bit like Elf on the Shelf, something rather meaningless that just creates more work for the adults.

Yes, they do something. At our school, the younger kids make a project or bring in 100 objects. They also play math games and other activities related to the number 100.

Often this is a big celebration in kindergarten-first or second grades. It is used to encourage counting and skip counting to 100.

Our Moco ES does a big thing about it. No dressing up but activities and a mini party etc.

oh and it didn't do anything to teach her about the concept of 100 but it was fun

My kid in APS dressed up last year as a first grader. She loved it, but then started to feel a little self conscious since only about 8/23 kids dressed up from her class. So...I think it's a thing, but maybe not widely participated depending on the school?
