Where does your family live, loser?

Let us know so I can take a big sh#t on your neighborhood

They are called “trolls.” And they target this website because it’s filled with a lot of readers who work in government and industry.

There are very powerful forces in this country trying to affect public perceptions, even if they don’t match the lived reality. People are easier to control when they live in fear. COVID accelerated this, by keeping people atomized in their homes and becoming less social.

I’m always puzzled with threads asking for advice on the Real Estate part of the forum, then two pages in OP will be like “oh I don’t live in the DC area” … why do so many people come to a region-specific forum if they aren’t talking about this region? Why not go to a Houston subreddit or something?

It's almost like there are many factors impacting where people choose to live!

If you hate where you live, move. There are very few industries exclusive to DC

This is intended to be a joke---right ?

OP here, there are neighborhoods that I would not go to in DC and have high crime, yet people move to those neighborhoods and expect that there will be no crime. This has always been the case. When I was young and lived in Shaw, it really was dangerous, but I knew that. For the very same reason, I wouldn't live in NoMa (sorry folks) or Petworth (sorry folks) or on Kennedy Street NW (sorry folks). They are expensive neighborhoods, but are still up and coming. In DC, the cost of the house doesn't equate to no crime. People must understand the difference.

I lived in DC for 4 years. Bought my first house in that city. It has some great areas that are as safe as any. It also has some areas where I wouldn't go to ever.

Like most cities in the world. No better; no worse.

The city of DC has an unconscionable number of homicides and people living below the poverty line for what is still the capital city of the world (in terms of economic and political influence).

That is an incredible shame and a stain on the US. Every other wealthy country has less violent crime in its capital than the US. America is the wealthiest nation that has the starkest inequalities, and it's obvious right here in DC. We need to change.

why not both?

I look out my window and there is trash on the street. I also wave to my neighbors. There wasn't a shooting last night in my immediate (4-block) neighborhood, but there's generally one at least monthly. My neighbors and I both don't like the trash or the shootings.

And none of us send our kids to DCPS.

I see how people get so worked up when they read forums like this. Like murderers are running through our streets with axes.

It's ridiculous. I love DC and wouldn't want to live anywhere else!

Egad, my kids even attended DC public schools and guess what - they went to college and can read.

Your opinion and lived experience is valid. So are the opinions and lived experiences of others. Not everyone has the same idyllic view out their windows as you.
