If your child hadn't brought up the topic, a conversation on skin color may be premature. Do the books you read to her include children of different ethnicities? If not, I would start there. I'm not talking about books specifically about skin color or diversity, but books like Lola Plants a Garden or Ada Twist Scientist. Look for books with kids who are doing things your child can relate to, or even if she can't relate, about things that might interest her.

Yes, you should talk to her about treating all the kids in her class equally and not singling out anyone. At that age, kids say some unfortunate things, like commenting on brown skin color as dirty, etc.
