She forgot. No biggie. Either she will show up or not. Thanksgiving will be fine either way.

No signs of losing it. The best I can figure is it was after dinner discussion and there was vacation-level wine involved, and maybe she’s embarrassed that it’s hazy. At any rate, as of now I don’t think she doesn’t believe that she agreed to it, she just no longer wants that to be the reality!

Is this unusual behavior for your Mom? Asking because sometimes things like this are first warning sign of cognitive decline.

My mom is put out because my brother’s wife texted to make some early plans for Thanksgiving at their house (about a 4-hour drive for my family and for my mom and dad).

My mom apparently totally forgets that we discussed and agreed to Thanksgiving at my brother’s house when we all were at a beach house vacation in early July. We sat around after dinner one night and made plans, and mom was happy about it.

Mom is now saying it was her turn to host and she was really looking forward to it, and why is SIL “calling it now,” etc. I flat-out told my mom that I remember the discussion perfectly and she seemed happy and in agreement at the time. We went around and around and she finally said, “That may be, but it’s my turn.”

I told her my family will be at my brother’s house regardless of whether my parents decide to join us. I’m honestly baffled. My dad is taking the “I’m staying out of it stance” even though I know he remembers.
