D says it starts the Monday before Labor Day, like normal.

Note this part of the memo:

"This memorandum presents four calendar scenarios as examples of possible combinations of elements and their various impacts on the overall 2023–2024 School Year Calendar. These are not intended to be finalized calendars but rather a starting point for further refining and adjusting the calendar moving forward."

I can't resign because I'm a parent, but I'll be pissed if they start a week early. We always take a vacation that week and moving it earlier will be difficult. I wish they'd just pick a start date and stick to it, at least, so we could have consistency.

I like starting earlier I think but we’re already trying to book vacation for next summer and I know many families book a year ahead for cheaper options, time shares and national parks. I wish they were just not constantly moving stuff around with less than a hears notice. Would HS sports tryouts move up as well?

Ugh, no! I’d prefer to start after Labor Day.

But D goes until June 18, I think. It's the evil year that just won't end

Scenario C starts only 2 days earlier. You'd resign because of 2 days?

I kind of like that one, because the first 2 days are usually just housekeeping and icebreakers anyway.

MCPS is so clueless. Their first calendar option has school starting a WEEk earlier when the survey only had the option of starting “up to the 3 days earlier”.

I had many students miss the entire first week of school this year for vacations. Would be much worse starting a week earlier. It would be almost time for interims by Labor Day.

And if anybody complains about professional days, just remind them that the alternative is to hire more teachers so more planning time and PD can happen during a school day. I teach over 100 students but MCPS is only required to give me 27 minutes of planning time daily. I desperately need professional days to get anything done.
