Honestly, I'm not thrilled about having to have an in person, workday only meeting (our slots were 2-430 or 10-12). If I am making the effort to go to the conference, I would love to have data to be prepared and make the most of it.
Make the most of it for you, or for your child’s education?
For my kids' education. If they're struggling in an area, I want to talk about it to see how we can support them. If I don't know where the teacher is assessing weaknesses, it's hard for me to be prepared to ask the right questions about what we need to do.

I don't really need to talk to the teacher for 15 minutes about what my kid likes about school and who her friends are. Yes, the social-emotional is important and deserves some air time but hold yourselves accountable APS and tell me where my kid is at skill-wise and what we need to work on or what's going well. The fall conferences did not used to be like this.
Fall conferences are typically more about the teacher getting information from you about your kid than providing significant information about your child’s academic achievement. The latter is more the focus of the spring conferences.
This seems crazy to wait until spring to talk about academics when you're through 3/4 of the year at that point.

I have older kids and no, they used to share the first reading assessment with you at the conference and show you writing samples etc. And yes ask you questions about your kid too. But it was a two-way sharing of information.
Then why did APS move them from the beginning of October to the end of October? When they made that move the stated reason was to give more time for assessments and so the teacher would be in a better position to talk about academic strengths and weaknesses. You have older kids. Perhaps you had the tell me about your child conferences in early October. They moved to late October and STILL can’t tell me anything.
