I’m just trying to figure out if I should go out of my way to attend as an OOB lottery participant. We are most interested in Loiederman.

No, they aren't worth it at all, especially LMS. The magnet program is really weak.

Interesting. My child attended Loiederman and got lots of artistic and academic opportunities kids in their home middle school didn't get. Did your child actually go to LMS or are you just basing this on assumptions.

Yes, my child went and the academics beyond math were not anything special as it was teacher dependent and the arts program was very teacher dependent and we weren't impressed at all. Other schools have stronger arts programs. LMS may have more offerings but that's not better. The only advantage was they allowed students one extra class so they got two choice electives instead of one. They had a huge staff turnover this summer and several kids from the magnet program transferred out. Some of the best teachers left this year for other schools/programs. Our experience was clearly very different than yours. One issue is it is not a test in-program so they get kind who enjoy the arts vs. the top kids so the classes often cater to kids just starting out vs. advanced kids. Maybe it was better when your kids attended but a lot has changed since then.

I think the benefit is getting to see the school building. You can also ask questions.

Its just a presentation and let you view the school building.

Wondering what material is covered. Is it the same as the video presentations they already sent out? Are they worth going?

(We are out-of-boundary and have a conflict with another MCPS event that runs the same time as the Parkland open house, but also generally wondering what these are like)
