I went from a Jetta to a Tiguan.

Assuming you don’t have dogs and only have the one kid you don’t really need an SUV. You have one already so I would stick with a sedan for your 2nd car. Get a Toyt or Hond 4 door.

If you are going to buy a truck or suv/crossover, I would recommend an American brand. Their trucks and crossovers are better than the Japanese brands.
You can't go wrong with the Ford Escape.

You say small but you don't give a budget. And if you keep your cars forever get something that will age well and still look presentable in a retro way after 15 years, and also be fun to sit in and drive. I'd say get a Mercedes glc Amg. It's so ugly it's kind of cool.

I agree.

Nissans have horrible transmission issues and Kia’s are just junk.

They are for people who want to drive a modern looking car on a beer budget.

I am on the fence re: Hyundais.

I have heard the newer ones are much better than the older ones.

Op here … I actually have had 3 Nissans with great luck. We aren’t in DC any longer, not super worried about theft where we are.

DH has a 15 year old VW Jetta that needs to be replaced. He’s full time WFH so it won’t get a ton of miles. I have an SUV and drive a lot for work, so on the weekends, ideally we’d use his car (but currently I refuse to ride in his tiny car lol). We need something bigger than a Jetta, so Sedan or small SUV. He doesn’t like huge cars and we have a small garage. He has no idea what he wants and I’m not a huge car person either. Must be reliable and comfortable. We only have one kid, 7 year old (she’s just in a booster). He and I are both relatively tall.
