Trent is fine- although I like Brent better.

Oh please give your child a better name than this. Trent is a bartender, or a sleezy guy in a band with greasy hair. He’s not an attorney, a successful CEO, or a Supreme Court Justice.

What Trenton makes, the world takes.

Good strong motto, actually.

OP here: Okay, got it! I'm actually from New Jersey funny enough but do not have negative connotations and would not think other people would be so offended. Trent it is.

Meh. I like names like Brooklyn, etc. I think both are good but if you're only using Trenton to avoid the nickname thing, I'd do Trent because that's a perfectly good name by itself.

K, that's helpful
I like Trent, I think that is a standalone name.

OP should know that the name Trenton will immediately make a lot of people think about Trenton, New Jersey. This connection has not apparently occurred to her. Stuff like this is why people post on these boards about baby names to begin with. It's actually quite helpful.

My thoughts exactly.

Trent is not my style but at least does not immediately bring to mind New Jersey. Nothing against Jersey! It's just not where I get my baby name inspiration.

Awful name, in the realm of Kyle and Chad.

Trent, definitely Trent. Trenton has a try-hard feel to it, like you didn’t think Trent could stand on its own — which it definitely can. Trent is a strong, masculine name.

How about Port? Middle name could be Authority. Very masculine IMO.

If you must, Trenton.

Expecting another boy- thinking about Trenton/Trent for the first name. I like both of these a lot.
If we went with Trenton we would likely call him Trent from the beginning. Normally I prefer a nickname to come later on and not start out with a name that I know won't really be used (if that makes any sense)
but I also avoid names like Jack even though I like that because I don't want a nickname for a real name.

Thoughts?
