+1. My kids were at two different sleep away camps this summer, and each camp required that an emergency contact be available to pick up within a few hours. One of my kids did get covid at camp so we had to go pick her up mid-session (hopefully this will be a non-issue next summer). We did do a short driving vacation for a few days but we weren’t too far from either camp.

1. I wouldn't leave the country while my kids were at camp.

2. I wouldn't spend the money to go abroad for a few weeks and then spend at least half the time working.

Just my 2 cents.

I would consider Lyon, Strasbourg, or further south like Avignon.

I would love to spend time in Brittany - it is not east France though.

I was there once and fell in love with the food.

I would stay close and get to know the area more intimately, rather than rushing off in all directions.

Not France, but I would love to do that in the Lake District in England.

What are your backups for emergencies? I never went overseas when the kids were in camp in case I needed to pick them up.

If you’re only there for 2-3 weeks and working 1 - 1.5 weeks, you really don’t have a ton of time to explore.
Alsace is nice, and you can get to Germany in an hour or so and the mountainous part of Switzerland in 2 hours. There are lots of moderately priced airbnbs in cute towns.

I’m looking at 2- 3 weeks working remotely next summer while kids are at camp. I’m single, will be traveling alone and expect to work about 50% of the time.

I’m consider eastern France for its central location of Western Europe. I’ve never explored that part of France and I’m hoping it would be easy and safe to explore Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium.

I’m comfortable driving in Europe as long as I’m on the right side of the road. Budget is a consideration (I’m not hitting 5 star resorts), but I’m more willing to fluctuate a modest 2-3 week ‘home base’ so I can spend weekends eating and enjoying comforts.

Where would you go for this type of trip and why?
