What rights law abiding and tax paying residents have? Do they not have the right to live in a clean, safe and healthy city? Do they need to put up, shut up or leave?

It doesn't matter democrats or republicans or independents , we need to elect people who care, want change and have sensible solutions.

Just keep giving freebies and decriminalizing crime is not care, its pity. Same way over-criminalizing underprivileged and denying resources isn't care, its punishment. It doesn't lift people up, it enables them to stay in destructive cycles and it makes everyone else want to leave and seek refuge in suburbs. It doesn't help anyone and destroys urban areas.

Would it help to take such families out of this environment and help them settle in rural areas, where a new lifestyle can break old habits?

I do think much tougher enforcement for school truancy is needed. There are kids who go to a school once or twice a week starting in kindergarten. I know schools do outreach and CPS gets involved, but it's not cutting it. How about we make sure kids actually go to school before we start forcing them to work or do activities after school.

Usually Dad is in jail , deadbeat, or otherwise not in the picture. Mom has her own issues- mentally , pre occupied, checked out, never home, etc.

These are highly dysfunctional, no positive role model, really sad families . These kids' formative years were not with people who win parent of the year awards.



Well, if kids are in school for most waking hours, there is an escape and an opportunity, for children and parents both.

Hence the allure of gangs. As notorious as they are, terns and young people get sucked into them bc at least with a gang you feel like you're part of something, you get attention, there's respect, etc...you know, all the things missing from a family.

Many of you sadly mistake what happens in your UMC school east of the park and what happens in schools all over the city.

Kids are tired of being parked in front of iPads and screens and being "monitored" by uncaring adults that claim to be teachers.

If I were a kid, I could see why some opt out.

I just voted in DC and 90% of the candidates are all repeats. We need term limits. I can't beleive that in a city with this many smart, educated people, the same 8 people run every single time. Or else the alternatives are total nut jobs (Chris Otten)
