yes - they have regular doorknob locks just like all the doors in our home.

One kid keeps his door closed and we always knock (he hates the cat in his room.) The other kid keeps his door open because the cat sleeps in there.

We always knock with closed doors (even siblings.)

Our bedroom doors all lock, they are rarely used, and we keep keys around for parents. I don't think they can be locked from the outside, so they wouldn't be empty and locked.

The only rule I have is they can't be locked at bedtime, in case of emergency. No one should be looking for a key or wasting time in a house fire or other emergency.

Yes the house we bought has locks on all bedroom doors. I am completely against people sleeping with locked doors for safety reasons but don’t get on them if they lock for other short period of times.

Am I the only one with siblings that try to annoy and barge in on other siblings? My oldest uses a lock every day so the younger siblings don’t bust in while he’s doing homework, reading, etc. I always used to lock my door to keep my brother out too when I was growing up. No locks on bathrooms is a pet peeve of mine..

I’ve never lived anywhere anyone locked bedrooms. My house growing up didn’t have locks and I never felt their lack. But my family was always good about knocking.

Yes our doors have locks and my kids both use them - it's for their privacy.

When one of them was caught vaping, he lost his ability to lock his door and I would search his room when he was at school.

Now he is back on track and he can use the lock - again - he is at school during the day so it's not like I don't have access.

I think privacy is important for kids and I want it as well.

Yes, and uses it and loves it. If he didn’t open the door when I knocked there would be hell to pay, but he always does so it’s not an issue. When he’s gone he leaves the door to his room wide open. He just enjoys the privacy and I get it, I would too!

My tween has a lock. She’s only used it once and we read her the riot act. Hadn’t done it since, closed door us enough to ensure privacy.

Sure why not? Those bedroom door locks are opened really easily. They don't secure a room. Our kids used them a couple of times and we told them that if they do so, that we're going to remove them (or the entire door) until they can be responsible. Now they only use them when we have company over or whatever which we are fine with. Some of their little cousins go in and destroy their things.

Locks? Hell no. Locks provide security, not privacy. A closed door provides privacy and can easily be achieved without any locks.

Nope. No locks. But you can give them privacy by not entering without their permission and knocking etc.
