Look for nursery schools, code for part day.

I would do a half-day Montessori for my own DC, but if one really objects to Montessori, then there are MANY half-day "preschools" which are mostly day-care. If one wants the latter, look for a preschool which claims to be "play based", but then check in-person. We find preschools labelled as play-based might or might not really be teaching some things.

Not sure exactly where you are. If you have a local parent listserv I bet they would have good ideas

You're looking for the wrong words. Search for preschools, not daycare. Daycare implies you need full day.

These are getting harder and harder to find. It isn't cost effective for daycares to provide only half days unless they can find someone else who wants the other half of the day. Their costs are fixed, so why should they offer a space in the program to someone only paying for half a day when they can offer the same space to a family that will pay the full rate? Especially with how everything has gone up in cost, all of their food, cleaning and childcare supplies have gone up in cost, so, now, more than ever, they need the full tuition.

If you are willing to pay the full day tuition, the you can do whatever you want, come and go as your schedule necessitates.

Are u looking to just pay for half day? I’m pretty sure most daycares will let you pick your kid up before nap. You will need to pay for the full day though. They have ratios to keep to snd it’s not like they’ll get another kid to come in at 1230.

half day nursery school is an option. that will be open 9am to 12/12:30pm. If your child is 4 years old, you might evenfind an afternoon preschool where your child would attend 12:30 to 3:30pm. But usually they only offer morning programs for the 3s because so many children do need naps that they can't get an afternoon program fully enrolled.

half day at a childcare is not, because we must keep the same # of teachers all day whether a few leave at 12pm or not. So I can't afford to offer half days - every attends full time in a child care center (full day program)

There should be lots of preschool options until 12. Our Montessori offers both and so did the preschool my older one went to. Not in your area so can’t recommend a specific one but this should be easy to find.

I paid for a full day montessori and used it as needed and for a few hours every day for my NT 3 yr old. I did not like the cheaper daycares that was giving me 1/2 day options.

Having an issue finding half-day (8-12 or 1, preferably 1 but we could make it work) in the Springfield, VA area? We have a kiddo with early ADHD indicators (big brother also has diagnosed ADHD) and he's energetic and has completely dropped naps. And he's disruptive during nap time, which we try to work on at home but according to our behavioral specialists, not much we can do other than parent normally, keep calm, and keep reiterating the rules/redirecting/etc. Day cares aren't having it. But none of these places have half day availability. The only place I've found is 2000 a month and 25min away each direction.
