This is not the magnet admission of yesteryear where academic achievement was the primary determinant. Now, every Tom, Dick and Harry can get in in the name of diversity.

Perhaps those words glitter to you, but they are fool’s gold. The applicants’ race and SES are not known.

A single B in MS? Yes, we did and DD was accepted at 3 STEM magnets.

Race, demographics and SES are not known to the selection committee. Stop spreading misinformation.

It was very clear at the Blair meeting on Monday that the ONLY data the selection committee gets is math/science grades, MAP-M and the personal essay and prompt responses. Anything else doesn’t matter.

just apply. Let them write something about how they see themselves and what they want.

The idea that you need perfect GPAs to get into programs is a parent generated idea, based on the wish that selection was based purely numerical rank which feels under parent control.

Yes, students can be selected with a B, or even a few. It depends when they happened, what courses, and what else as going on at the time. The application is simple, just apply.

This is the right answer. The application is easy. No harm in applying.

How would anyone on here know? I would hope the MCPS central office, or whoever is making these decisions, would have more sense than to reject a kid over a B. Then again, it's MCPS.
