babies at 36, 38 and 41. I switched at 6.5 months with my 2nd pregnancy from a dr @ fairfax inova to the ob praticse at georgetown medstar and finished with the drs there and had my third there

Georgetown has a high risk group but i did not need to use them and they have an excellent nicu which was important to me

Emergency c-section with the first and wound up with a c for the 2nd and then had to have one w/ the 3rd.

Conceived my first at 34.5, first month trying, just having lots of sex. Conceived my second at 36.5, second month trying. I was temping/charting and realized I had a short luteal phase (8 days, if I recall) the first month so I took a B vitamin (B complex?) and was pregnant the next month. Kids are 12 and 10 and happy and healthy.

Pregnant with #1 at 35. Delivered at 36. Advanced maternal age doesn't equal high risk.

How did I find a doctor? I went to the same ob/gyn I'd been seeing since I was in my 20s.

No fertility treatments.

Baby is now healthy 19 year old.

Delivered #2 at 40. Baby is now healthy 15 year old.

OP, are you actively trying to conceive? Have you had a difficulty conceiving? If you're just starting, my advice is to be aware of your fertility signs, have an idea of when you ovulate (based on your cycle length), have sex every 24-36 hours during your most fertile time, remembering sperm needs to be in your cervix *before* you ovulate.

First DD at 37 via FET after years of infertility (PCOS). Second DD at 41 was a surprise pregnancy. We had stopped actively trying for a second when I turned 40. I had one loss (ectopic) between the 2.
Healthy pregnancies, no complications, relatively easy vaginal births. I did opt for an induction with my second DD because I didn’t want to go past 40w. Prenatal care and deliveries for both babies were handled by a group of CNMs. Based on their recommendation due to my age in my 2nd pregnancy, I did see an MFM a few times for additional monitoring, but there were no concerns.

Healthy pregnancies and healthy kids at almost 39 and 42. Conceived on the first try with my first. Took over a year with 2 MCs with my second. I did acupuncture while TTC both times. Lots of gentle yoga too, but that was mostly just about stress reduction. I read the book It Starts with the Egg when TTC #2 after fertility testing indicated a very small chance of success with IVF, and implemented what seemed to make sense - some supplements, some lifestyle changes. We also used preseed lubricant.

But I doubt any of that helped. I think we were just incredibly fortunate.

Had my first at 36, no issues, perfect kid. Been trying for my second since 38 (two years so far), moving to IVF. No miscarriages or anything in between, just nothing.

Was 35 and 38. Went fine. Conception easy. One miscarriage somewhere in between the two. Did an amnio to check for chromosomal disorders. Be aware that there are a lot of them with the risk substantially increasing in the three years in between.

Are you actually high risk or just 35?

I had my first right before 35 and second at 38. I just used my regular ob/gyn who was great. Got pregnant on the first try, early miscarriage, then had my first child. Perfectly healthy. Also had an early miscarriage before my second healthy baby. I probably would not have known about the miscarriages if I wasn't testing obsessively. Easy pregnancies, healthy babies.

How long have you been trying?

I had my first at 35 and 2nd at 37. Both pregnancies were easy and uneventful. Best wishes!

Oh - and I was with the GW midwives, so I had 1 ultrasound at 20 weeks and for my 2nd one they let me space my appointments further apart and trust my body. So no additional monitoring. The only time it came up that I was “old” was with my first. I am also overweight, but not obese. Old+IVF+overweight was 3 strikes against me for going past 40 weeks, so we had to talk about the potential for induction. Lucky for me he came at 38w.

Who cares how it went for others? Has literally zero impact on how it will go for you. These are questions for your doctor.

You will get stories all over the spectrum here. 35 isn't very old by DC standards. So, most will tell you everything was fine, no issues, except increased doctor appointments. Others will have had issues, but honestly people had issues when trying at age 30. It's not a one size fits all scenario.

I will say I do not think you will feel out of place with other moms. Between parents with multiples, and the many who started at or above your age, there will be lots of other moms your age when you get to the preschool/school age stage.

For those of you who waited until you fell firmly into the high risk categories, how did everything go? How did you find a doctor? Did you do any additional fertility treatments? Baby happy and healthy?
