I’m not panicking at all. That my kids score is the mean of those admitted is great and very encouraging! He’s steadily 99th percentile. Just not one of the kids with 300+ scores. I know he’d do very well in the program but we’ll see.
300 and 270 are both 99% for the fall of 8th, and they use the percentile since the test wasn't designed to differentiate between fractions of a percent.

Were you actually there? What he said was that he didn’t remember the exact mean MAP score but that parents could email him to find it out. He did not say anything even remotely like the actual score doesn’t master anyway because we look at percentiles only.
It's been discussed here openly for years that percentiles are used since comparing the RAW scores is meaningless. If you'd asked them about this, I'm sure they would've told you as much.6
