This is OP - thank you for all your responses, so many good ideas.

For those that drink protein shakes, do you have a brand that you like? I have heard good things about Vega, but are there others I should consider? I tried whey powder too, did not like it.

Honestly, I just eat less. Healthy carbs aren't bad for you, and will keep you full, so it's easier to eat less. They also have protein. I feel like its easy to overeat yogurt unless you keep it plain without sugar.

I know this isn't the food forum, but since you mentioned it, do you have a good fried cauli recipe? I'm a veggie too and would love to add this to my rotation.

I roast my cauliflower at 450 in the oven until the edges are charred.

Just started GNC brand whey protein - very filling. I make a shake with frozen banana, almond milk and cacao powder

Half my plate is greens at dinner and lunch. I switch them up so I don’t get bored. My favorite dinner this time of year is a large baked potato with an extra large serving of mixed greens.

I eat more vegetables than grains, fruits, or beans and lentils.

I had to cut out a lot of the beans and grains to cut carbs in order to lose weight. This meant switching black beans and quinoa for more kale and broccoli. I added a protein shake each day as well. A normal day is:

2 scrambled eggs with a little shredded cheese

Big salad with nuts, cheese, tons of veggies + protein shake or bar

Berries or other fruit
Roasted veggies, low carb tortilla with avo mashed on it

I'm vegetarian, and am trying to up my protein (because I'm 45 and trying to gain some muscle mass) and also lose a few pounds that I've gained. My goal is to have 50% or more of the plate/bowl at my meals be vegetables or fruits, eat whole grains (like quinoa or brown rice) instead of refined grains and try to get 30 grams of protein per meal.

I've combined roasted vegetables with smaller portions of quinoa and a couple of scrambled or fried eggs, made smoothies with water, kale, fruit and protein powder, had plain Greek yogurt with chia seeds or hemp hearts, a little bit of sweetener and berries. Cottage cheese is another good option - high protein and low calorie.

Two eggs with the avo, not Avon. Don’t think putting on make-up or spritzing yourself with bad perfume is going to help you much. 😁

Eggs? They’re versatile in that you can fix them in multiple ways, and for me, they’re extremely filling and you can add something like a some blacks beans with salsa on the side.

Avocado, while not high in protein, have much more than other fruits or veggies.

One of my go to lunches/snacks when I’m feeling like I need a boost is chopped hard boiled eggs with mashed up avocado, may throw in some celery or onion. And I love fried eggs over avocados. Two eggs with the Avon would be about 9 grams of protein.

Are you eating yogurt or cheese? If not, you should.

If you are a vegetarian, what does your diet look like if you are trying to lose weight? I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian and looking to replace carbs (mostly healthy/unrefined/whole grain) with protein. I do the usual legumes/lentils, beans, nuts but any other ideas? I am not a huge fan of tofu or soy based products including mock meats. Please help! Thank you.
