I went there and disagree. Yes there are kids there who don’t leave the library (you’ll find that anywhere), but greek life is popular and there is plenty to do for the kids who are social. Baltimore is fun for college kids and the campus is really pretty.

It’s just really hard to get admitted.

You can believe that it is overrated but the fact of the matter is that US News, which publishes by far the most important ranking in terms of reach, has ranked Hopkins as a top 10 school in each of the last 5 years. They also received a great $1.8 billion donation from Bloomberg specifically for financial aid. His gifts of over $3.5 billion have been a game changer and make the future look very bright there since it is unlikely he won't pledge even more money to his alma mater.

They probably need the aid money. Kids just not wanting to go there despite the pestigeous status.

US News is cool but when it comes down to making an actual decision about where to go, no one actually cares. Remember when Stanford was 6th or lower for the longest time, but they still only lost the cross-admit battle to Harvard? No one cared that Princeton was ranked 5 spots ahead of Stanford for years, people know what the best schools are. And Johns Hopkins is not better than Caltech, Duke, or Northwestern despite what US News says.

It’s a great school, but in a terrible location. DC took a tour and crossed it off the list based on surrounding area

Not for undergrad due to not fun social life

I went there, and it's a great school but the location in a declining city hurts it

It's a good school but it's not known to be exactly fun or interesting for undergrad, unless you're extremely into pre-med and want to do medical research as an undergrad. It's also a difficult school. It's very similar to UChicago, and has many of the same causes for lack of desirability that UChicago does. Let's put it this way: would your kids rather be stuck in Baltimore in a library 24/7, or would they rather be hanging out in Cambridge, going to a Duke basketball game, or living next to Silicon Valley at Stanford?

Seems very overranked.

I just saw that their yield rate is 38%. That seems really low for such a prestigious school.

It's so desirable no one gets in so that's why no one talks about it
