You’re right, OP, whether or not people want to make excuses (a hit dog hollers; as apt an analogy as any here). Lots of people with zero dog experience have gotten dogs in the last few years and worse a lot of people have developed the belief that dogs are the same as humans. Pair those facts with a growing sense of entitlement and voila, untrained dogs.

There’s nothing really wrong with most of them. People could get a trainer or ask a friend or read a book or watch some videos.

No one on here of course. All of the women are strong, all the men are good looking and all of the dogs are above average.

We got our dog pre pandemic and took him everywhere, he met so many people and so many dogs. We did training classes and kept everything consistent in our family. We did everything "right" except we picked a dog with anxiety who, yes, sometimes barks at other dogs. He's not physically aggressive, he barked because he is scared. +1. My dog is fine with the dogs who were already here in the neighborhood when we adopted him. He does not like the "new" dogs. We did three sets of training (Petco, then a local trainer, then a sleepaway boot camp) - nothing stuck. He's a rescue terrier mix, and he barks at other dogs because he wants to protect us.

Hmm. The dogs I raised from puppies were easy, cooperative and trusting from the start, easy to teach. The adults that I chose to adopt all eventually fell in line too. This last one just kind of showed up, and she isn't quite there yet. She might bark at you. Just keep on walking, eventually she'll get it just like all the rest of them.

I remember years ago when my then-boyfriend was a “gentle giant” sort, former linebacker in college. We’d be at a bar and these short guys would come out of nowhere and start trying to provoke him into a fight. It was really weird and nothing I had experienced before. I think any species of male will find the smaller ones trying to poke the bigger ones into a fight in some sort of attempt to prove something. Sorry you and your dog are dealing with this.

Absolutely. Yours is the first dog with anxiety. We should all be understanding of his bad behavior.

I’m a little more understanding with tiny dogs because they’re so easy to physically control. But, with shepherds and other strong breeds, it’s nonsensical to not have them well trained.

Lot of people never had pets growing up and have no clue how to take care of them much less train them.

I just walked my giant breed dog. Thankfully, she’s calm and submissive because so many other dogs are reactive and poorly trained. I think her size sets off other dogs, but it’s so common that it’s annoying.

We passed a GSD who was lunging and barking at her, and then we passed a football-sized mutt with a small-man complex. He was barking and lunging at us, too.

My big girl was chill the whole time; she is a lover not a fighter, thankfully.

Please socialize and train your dogs, people. It’s kind of scary out there.
