Poland now warning its nationals to leave Belarus ASAP amid increasing tensions and deployment of Russian troops.

Ukraine doesn’t want to be a corrupt Russian puppet.

Putin is attempting to solidify his control over Belarus with the insertion of an unspecified number of troops. No doubt he’s thinking about the possibility of another sham referendum down the road should Lukashenko lose control. .

I specifically said free elections. The 2020 elections were nothing of the sort.

Actually Russia has an hostile relationship with Belarus. Russia propped up Belarus' dictator, especially after he likely stole the election in 2020 and a public uprising almost kicked him out of power. he clinged to power thanks to Russia and is Russia's puppets. the difference with Ukraine is that in Ukraine Russia failed to keep a friendly puppet and Ukraine has been turning into a democracy and toward the West, politically and economically. Putin's original aim of the invasion was to get direct control of the East, remove Zelenski and install a friendly "president" who would do his bidding in Ukraine.

the fact that Belarus' president takes orders from Putin is clear from the news today, that Belarus may send troops to Ukraine. the war is wildly unpopular in Belarus but now Putin desperately needs cannon fodder and Lukashenko was forced to comply. Putin already controls Belarus, through a puppet, he does not need to invade

Ukraine overthrew the corrupt puppet regime of Yanukovych and his oligarchs as part of the Revolution of Dignity (Maidan Revolution) in February 2014. Putin responded with the annexation of Crimea and backing Russian-affiliated and supplied militias in Donbas. Poroshenko continued the process moving Ukraine toward the EU.

People get kinda posed with imperialist neighbors occupy your country and terrorize it’s inhabitants.

Mussolini would never dare do anything to oppose Hitler, so while Mussolini was in power, Italy was essentially a vassal state of Nazi Germany. Similarly, Lukashenko would never dare do anything against Putin, so Belarus is essentially a vassal state of Russia.

Belarus has pro Russian leadership and has had it for over 20 years. Their president does not allow dissent and toes the fine line really well (he is not sanctioned to the gills and used to even get some breadcrumbs from the west).
Ukraine on the other hand wants to be “with the West” which is threatening to Putin.

Belarus is a dictatorship. Ukraine is a democratic country where you are allowed to criticize the president without going to jail for wrong social media likes.
