Back in the 1980s at my MCPS high school, it wasn't fake. Parents just stood in the back and everybody carried on as normal. We always got a decent number, but never so many that space was an issue (or that it was cool or not cool, or whatever). I miss those non-cynical days.

Lots used to go to Blair's. I actually brought a grandparent once because I thought they would like some of the courses. (They loved it). None of the kids seemed fazed by parents there. Also tons show up for TPMS.
Same for RMIB! My kid’s classes has a decent amount of parents.
