Another parents here who really doesn't want full sized bars. Also my kids LOVE dum dums!

This year we are not doing full sized candy bars due to the price increase. Kids are lucky to get anything. So don't feel embarrassed.

Last year at a trunk or treat my kid picked out all dum dums. It killed me inside to look at all the "good" candy I wanted (to steal from him later), when he was happy as a clam with a bag full of dum dums. (He's too young to have done this strategically.)

See, I think this is just annoying, and I’m not anti-sweets/candy like much of DCUM. Kids get plenty of candy and they don’t need single houses going overboard. When people give away full size candy bars or bags of candy, that’s less about the kids than about themselves. Don’t try to keep up with the Joneses. You’ll drive yourself crazy doing it, and be nudging expectations towards excess.

One small candy item, regardless of kind, is enough to support the community effort and to treat the kids in the community. Kids may have preferences in candy, but price point isn’t what they’re judging by.

NP. I agree with you. A lollipop is great, and combined with all the other lollipops etc from the neighborhood, the kids will have a great haul.

If you happen to live in a neighborhood that goes all out (like Capital Hill) then budget for this event next year. If not, then go with the dumdums or turn off your lights.

Kids won’t care and they won’t remember who gave them what. And they love dum dums. Costco seems like a good choice but idk, I feel like it’s priced about normally, not terribly discounted.

Smarties are also a cheap choice

Sounds trivial but we are working with limited finances this fall and before I resort to dumdums, I wanted to ask if you have priced out candy and found good deals. I normally get 2-3 bags from Costco.
