We like Casa Oaxaca in Bethesda. (and met Pati at a mutual friend’s dinner party and she was lovely and engaging)

This is s appropo of nothing but I was just watching Patti's Mexican Table and one of her sons "wandered " into kitchen and started helping her. It was so nice to hear "what can I do" instead of "what's for dinner ."

For the OP's question, I liked the food at Muchas Gracias, really unique flavors and ingredients.

I actually saw her at muchas gracias. She’s awesome.

We have been at a few smallish dinner parties with her because we have mutual friends and she is smart and engaging.

I feel the same way when watching her shows. I stopped watching because it's not the kind of food I will ever make, and there is no other way to satisfy the urge for the food I see her make.

I am from Arizona and my go to Mexican in the DMV is Anita's. It's technically New Mexico style, not Sonoran like we have in Tucson, but it's very reasonable and pretty authentic. There are other restaurants I like as much, but they are Tex-Mex or Spanish style, not true Mexican.

My DD met her downtown on a field trip to the Mexican Cultural Institute. She's a big personality and her food is amazing.

Makes me so hungry for truly good authentic Mexican food. Is there a truly authentic Mexican restaurant in the DMV area. Not Tex-Mex.
