I’m with you OP. And I have very high arches so have to either wear orthotics or get shoes that give tons of support. It’s frustrating.

I have a more difficult time finding the right shoe during fall/winter. However, I always get it right in Spring/Summer. I think sandals are easier to figure out/pair with outfits.

Not sure I can relate:
it depends what you do at night. If you're going out to eat in a casual setting, you don't need to dress up. People go there in jeans and sneakers. If you want to dress up, then pair your outfit with something more formal: a short dress with high boots, a longer skirt with short boots, nice flats, pumps, etc...point being they all need to be suede/leather and not dirty, worn down or scuffed. The daintier footwear is built a little differently than daywear shoes, with finer leather and slimmer heels. You don't want to stamp about the restaurant in something that looks and sounds like a work boot!

Black leather pointed toe flats
Python print neutral pointed toe flats
Gucci loafers
Black lug sole boots
Black mid heel height Chelsea style boots
Camel Chelsea style boots
Chloe Susanna black/gold ankle boots
Black high heeled booties
Black high heels
Animal print high heels
Veja v10 sneakers in black/white and white/gold
Random cheap summer sandals I pick up at dsw each year

Reflecting on the list, I think sticking to neutrals is helpful as well if you’re just trying to pull looks together rather than put the focus on your shoes.

This is very helpful.

OP here. Okay, it seems many of us have shoe issues! I will also add that I am somewhat tall (5’7, long legs) and I like a heel, although not too high and I also have pants leg issues because I have long legs….hoping someone will chime in with some tips for us!

I definitely have day shoes, run around shoes, day boots/booties, night shoes, night heels, night boots. All are either black or beige/tan.

I won't wear uncomfortable shoes.

I've had good luck going to DSW with something in mind . . . finding a tan or grey suede bootie. Then I try on a bunch until one of them feels right. (Otherwise I have to spend a thousand dollars ordering a bunch from Zappos to try.) Once you find a brand you like, order a similar style in a black (p)leather etc. You could also go to a department store instead if you want higher quality. I just wear slip-on casual shoes most of the day so I don't feel the need to spend a lot on my going out shoes.

Length problem meaning no booties for me because where the length falls is important and I know I couldn’t get that right!

Same here. To add to that I’m tall so I sometimes have length problems with pants (depending on where the waistband sits ona given day). I try not to keep things classic, not in style and not terribly dated. Loafers, drivers, etc. summer with the sandal option is easier than winter.

I feel this. No ideas, but I wish I could hire a stylist to simply find me one the one good fashion sneaker, short boot, sandal, and flat that will go with everything in my closet and always be dressy enough but not too dressy.

Plus shoes are expensive and I’d rather have a few very high quality pairs that work with everything than a bunch of cheaper pairs. But it’s so hard to find the truly versatile shoes that are worth the expense. I hope people offer some suggestions, especially some without a high heel because I’d love some ideas.

The title says it all. I feel like I will put together a great outfit, and then I will ruin it with a footwear choice that just isn’t quite right. Do I need to have to sets of every type of shoe for day and night? Ex. Black bootie - lug sole for day, a note refined one for night? Or does anyone have links to shoes that are versatile…
