Better carbs, which should be no more than 1/4 of your plate, would be barley, farro, oatmeal, beans and lentils, Ezekiel bread (flaxseed is a fav), maybe dark brown wild rice. I do Bob's Red Mill farro in a rice cooker (1:2 grain to water ratio) and it's great! Protein at every meal. At least half the plate is fruits and vegetables. For candy, switch to dark chocolate.

I am hyper aware though because all the adults in my extended family have type II diabetes but my mom and dad have managed to avoid it. I basically have eggs for breakfast. Sometimes tossing in spinach/other veggies or salsa and sometimes making an egg taco with cheese. Lunch is usually whatever I can microwave--usually it is an indian veggie entrée. Dinner is haphazard but think chili with tortilla chips or I am trying to make more fish. Pasta once a week. I do have a weakness for candy and cheese with baguette. Otherwise, I am not eating entirely poorly. I do need to lose 20 lbs and I think if I shed even 10 it would make a difference. I was looking into low glycemic index foods and recipes.
Based on what you wrote, you are not intaking much. Why do you have to lose weight? Are you overweight?
Yes! I am overweight. I gained the Covid 20 and went from 124 to 145. I am five two. I eat well most of the time but I used to walk like 3 miles a day and I haven't made time for exercise.
