OP, for many people, even normalweight people, losing 5% of bodyweight or even 5-10 lbs (better if it's quickly rather than slowly) is enough to reset the body and put off diabetes for several years or longer. You can do it!

Better carbs, which should be no more than 1/4 of your plate, would be barley, farro, oatmeal, beans and lentils, Ezekiel bread (flaxseed is a fav), maybe dark brown wild rice. I do Bob's Red Mill farro in a rice cooker (1:2 grain to water ratio) and it's great! Protein at every meal. At least half the plate is fruits and vegetables. For candy, switch to dark chocolate.

PP here. Instead of cheese with baguette, try a little cheese, more nuts and fruit (or dried fruit). If you are here in DC area, Sprouts has great dried fruit.

I basically have eggs for breakfast. Sometimes tossing in spinach/other veggies or salsa and sometimes making an egg taco with cheese. Lunch is usually whatever I can microwave--usually it is an indian veggie entrée. Dinner is haphazard but think chili with tortilla chips or I am trying to make more fish. Pasta once a week. I do have a weakness for candy and cheese with baguette. Otherwise, I am not eating entirely poorly. I do need to lose 20 lbs and I think if I shed even 10 it would make a difference. I was looking into low glycemic index foods and recipes.

Based on what you wrote, you are not intaking much. Why do you have to lose weight? Are you overweight?

Yes! I am overweight. I gained the Covid 20 and went from 124 to 145. I am five two. I eat well most of the time but I used to walk like 3 miles a day and I haven't made time for exercise.

Since your diet isn’t bad overall I’d prioritize exercise. It’s hugely important to managing blood sugar. Can you squeeze in a 30 min walk at lunchtime and another 30 mins after work?

My fasting blood sugar was high. History of diabetes in my family. Yes, I can shed some pounds but any specific diet suggestions or tips/tricks?
