My sixth grader has a ton and it’s all she wears. The Athleta and Under Armour ones are great but most of the ones are from colleges or places we visit. Everywhere we go, we get one. She sometimes sleeps in them.

That’s funny. I was in the fifth grade in 2000 when hoodies were THE thing. My reward for getting straight As was an O’Neill hoodie from PacSun. I wore it almost every day for two years.

My kid wears hoodies and sweatpants everyday. It's no big deal.

My son wears the same one or two hoodies for school every day. So long as it's clean, why would that be a problem?

Mine wears sweats, pajama pants, and sometimes jeans with a hoodie. Never leggings. As for hoodies, mine would never buy one I picked. She gets them from places we visit and colleges she likes (thanks to Amazon). Always big. Usually zip up.

Why do you care if your 5th grade is in style?

My 4th grader too. We have battles on picture day and special occasions. She won this year when she ditched the hoodie but then kept her jacket on for her school picture.

My 4th grade DD is extremely picky. But all she will wear is running shorts, leggings, plain t shirts, and sweatshirts.

I guess it’s better than absurd things I wanted to wear at that age.

Definitely still in style. My first instinct is to let your DD pick out what she likes. My DD was very picky about colors, textures, weight/heaviness etc. at that age. (She still is, actually!)

But we've always had great luck with Aerie (super soft and they're always running sales). I think the XXS is available only on-line - I'd say it's the equivalent of a kids' 10-12.

Also, the simple Champion and Nike sweatshirts are always big hits around here. DD only likes the small logo version but plenty of kids wear the larger logo versions. Again, ask your DD. She's old enough to weigh in and it's great to learn her preferences.

KIN Apparel has a nice range of hoodies in several colors. They come in heavyweight, thin/lightweight, and cropped versions, as well as a teddy bear fleece. From your description, the thin and the cropped versions might work.

The whole point is that they want to hide inside one that’s heavy and holds its shape. Her two favorites probably fit that description. All of the tweens in our neighborhood do this. I would have loved hoodies when I was 10-12 and my body was changing- it’s like having your own personal cave. Nothing was worse than thin, fitted clothes when I was in 5th and 6th grade and self-conscious.
