good idea of WFU to commit a bunch of kids in this early way. Kids who apply early enough and get rejection notice well ahead of 11/1 can then apply binding ED somewhere else. It's a nice plan.

Early decision is always binding. Early action is not.

It’s a binding ED, but you can apply in early fall - months earlier than the typical 11/1 ED deadline, and they advise on a rolling basis until November. I know of several acceptances from a few weeks ago. If a student is going to apply somewhere ED, and if as in many cases they will be evaluated based on their stats as of the end of junior year, it’s nice to not have to wait until 11/1 to apply, and until say 12/15 to receive a decision. Smart of Wake to appeal to those kids. My child is applying ED somewhere else, and might apply to WF in RD if they don’t get in, so I don’t have any skin in the game. But I wish their ED school would have this kind of admission plan. The picture of who they are is the same whether they were allowed to apply 9/1 or 11/1 (not the same for everyone I understand). Perhaps other schools will try this model out in future.

Will the response be a hard yes, no, or deferred to RD cycle?

Is Nov 15th date for all info or can semester grades be sent after 15th?

I heard the acceptance rates for ED and RD are pretty much the same. Is that true? It's about 30%, right?

Are ED acceptances mostly recruited athletes or do regular kids stand a chance?
