THIS!!! Unless you really need the money, I seriously don't understand why you would do this. Life is short and your coworkers aren't going to be coming to feed you pudding in the retirement home.

It all depends on how my kids “launch”. We had them late so want them to be set

I suspected but most people I know go private when they retire and make much more. But my boss has kept working and likely will never collect his pension I guess? Seems kinda sad.

My dad died in service (in his early 70s) and my mom collects his pension. So it didn't go to waste.

Does she get his full amount or survivor benefit amount? Sorry your Dad didn't get to enjoy his retirement.

At my agency people retire and come back as contractors so they can get their pension and keep working/collect a salary.

How old are you that your MRA is 62?

OPM has to approve an agency's request to hire a "re-employed annuitant."

I have seen it once or twice. Very very rare.

That's when they hire retires back on a part-time basis and not full time. It is common but not very rare.

No way to do it with your current job. There are circumstances where you can retire and then go work for another government agency while still drawing the pension, but it needs to be a separate retirement system. (E.g., retire from the Fed or CFPB, go work at the OCC.)

You have to retire to collect. In rare occasions govt might hire you back if you have critical skills but it requires very high level approval and time limited.

Um, no. You don't get a pension in addition to your salary.

I’m eligible at my pension at 62, my MRA. Can I collecting my pension while still employed at my Fed job or do I actually have to retire and leave federal service?

I love my job, my boss is 80 and sharp as a whip, and I hope to keep at it (and build some nest egg for kids) beyond retirement age.

But a big value of my job is the worth of the pension; if I never start collecting it’s a bad deal. I guess I could go private but with ageism probably slim pickings for a 70 year old.
