Toilet train the cats. We started our cat at two and it took a few months but he eventually did it (I plan to toilet train much sooner with the next kitten.) We used the Litter Kwitter and City Kitty kits, I preferred Litter Kwitter because it was made with molded plastic and reusable.

Prior to toilet training our cat used Feline Pine. You can buy horse pellet bedding at Tractor Supply, it’s the same thing and much cheaper.

You can also carve out an entry hole in a big Tupperware box with a lid. That’d make a giant litter box with really high walls to keep the litter from escaping.

I am having relative success keeping the litter from tracking, using a top-entry litter box and World's Best Cat Litter (it's corn, it's also flushable and septic safe).

I only have to sweep around it like once a week vs. constantly when I used clay litter and a regular box. The lid of the top entry box has ridges which hold the litter when he puts his paws on it to jump out.

We use pine pellets (feline pine). It's more expensive but I find that it doesn't smell

The 2 kittens we adopted last year are now full grown cats and get litter all over the floor of our utility room where we have their 2 litter boxes. I used disposable cardboard litter boxes inside very high walled large rubbermaid storage containers and still the litter scatters every where. Granted, I do buy the cheap fill up your own container litter from Petco. I’m so tired of the mess that I’m fine with paying more. What litter should I try? I’ve been reading about Pretty Litter but the pieces look pretty small like they would scatter everywhere. Would a cover with a hole help contain the litter?
