Right? I grew up in the US and in the 90s my grandparents tried to do this on a visit back to India and I outright refused.

I guess they need an alternative to the thread ceremony for boys which has been in full force the whole time in the States.

OP - give money, you can't go wrong. end it with a 1 - as in 51, 101, etc.

Also never thought I’d see these words on DCUM. Grew up in urban India in the 70s and my generation never did these. Surprised to hear they are back.
