I would leave it ajar, or if you can’t put some tin foil on it

Following a recipe for beef stew. Five hours at 275. "Cover lightly." Does that mean cover halfway? (can't do less than that, because of the large, heavy lid). Or mostly cover it but leave a little ajar?
