The Potomac River Running one is fun and low key, and cheap. It's been going on for a few weeks now but you might still be able to sign up. It's on Sunday evenings at the South Lakes track.

Fairfax has a running group for ES kids that the policy dept is the organizer of for some reason. Check to see if that may be the case in that area too.
