Given low numbers from this area, your DC probably needs to do a very good job at showing demonstrated interest. Your "unpopular" theory could work against DC if the admissions staff think "nobody from there chooses this school" so why bother accepting someone who won't come.

How hard is it to get into? Just because there are 16 MCPS enrollees doesn't mean many more didn't apply.

IDK, it might. From what I hear colleges primarily compare applicants against their own classmates. So less competition from within the school might give some marginal benefit, assuming they have the basic stats to be competitive in the first place.

IDK, it might. From what I hear colleges primarily compare applicants against their own classmates. So less competition from within the school might give some marginal benefit, assuming they have the basic stats to be competitive in the first place.

My DD wants to apply to a college that is unpopular in this area and enrolls, maybe 15 kids, from MCPS. Does that help her chances of getting in if there are not that many applicants from MCPS?
