This with 25 years experience. Setting was lovely; workload endless.

Top 3, 15+ years, advanced graduate degree, $105k. Benefits at privates do not compete with those in public (esp. affordable health insurance).

If you work in FCPS and live nearby, you should look at Langley School. I found them to be the most competitive of the private schools in the area and the teachers genuinely seemed pretty happy.

My private has endless demands also. Grass isn’t always greener.

Health insurance was about 1200 for the “family” plan each. My husband didn’t have insurance at his job so we had to take it. It ate up a huge chunk of my pay. I made about 80k and ended up leaving for a non teaching job in the private sector.

Similar for a not big 3, but well known independent. It works well for a dual income family, or if you don't have lots of expenses. The benefits were fine. You pretty much fund your own retirement of course.

I work at a Catholic high school. They came close to matching my salary when I switched from a DMV public after 10 years teaching. I don’t have a pension anymore (other than what I vested), but they do contribute to my 403B.

I feel like I should mention I have just as many demands coming my way and I still feel overwhelmed. Still, I’m MUCH happier. Admin is stronger and I feel very appreciated and supported.

I used to be in HR at a local independent school. For 7 years of experience we’d pay in the low-mid 60s.

"Private" is also a term that encompasses a lot of schools, so it might be helpful if posters share if they work in an Independent, Catholic (Diocese not an Independent Catholic like Georgetown Prep), or Christian school, as well as school size because those things likely factor into resources available for salaries and benefits. My independent school has excellent retirement and health insurance benefits, unlike a PP said about theirs. OP - I'd recommend applying if you see a job you are interested in. You can always turn down the offer and stay at FCPS if the salary and benefits doesn't work for you.
