That seems low when you consider there are at least 210 schools plus other buildings (less than 55,238 per if you assume all buildings were serviced).

Did anyone notice that their school didn't upgrade their HVAC / fans and ducts? If you're in a classroom, spray a mist into the air. Is it carried away only in one direction? Ex. up a duct, out the hallway, etc?

If the mist hangs on the air, it means MCPS wasted the money.

Masks are just one part of it, you also need better HVAC, social distancing and those who are sick to stay home.

What is the actual data on air purifiers? I thought data supported upgraded HVAC (better filters and increased air changes per hour) over air purifiers. We still don’t have air conditioning in gyms and I know my classroom doesn’t having working AC. I complained about this for 2 weeks before I myself got COVID. I didn’t learn until I was home sick that the MCEA contract states teachers can request an alternative teaching space if the classroom temp is 80 or higher.

In my middle school class, an air purifier won’t physically fit in the room. I have over 50 kids in some classes and we barely fit as it is. An air purifier large enough for that many people would pose a safety hazard. The right size air purifier is also very loud. It’s hard enough for us to hear each other with masks and the excessive talking. Even in advisory we can barely hear each other because all of the students are having side bar conversations the entire time.

Why don’t you donate to the pta to buy them. It’s not going to stop transmission.

Just recruit some other parents and build these- way cheaper and easier.

I know most of y’all have moved on but the pandemic hasn’t and I’m continually dismayed that MCPS refuses to add air purifiers to every classroom in the district to cut down on Covid transmission. Seems like it would be worth the cost if students and staff missed fewer days. But anyway, since they won’t step up, what have folks done to get the purifiers at their school? Money through the PTA budget? Parent donations? Surely some of you have been successful in making this happen, so please share!!
