There are also some good podcasts for kids. I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations at my fingertips. We gravitated more toward podcasts in K-2 because you don't need to pay as much attention to "get it". It can be a little hard for a 5-6yo to follow along with a book for an extended period of time.

I was coming on to suggest Matilda! Kate Winslet is a great reader. (I also like Junie B and Romana)

I don’t know about audiobooks specifically, but based purely on story, I recommend:
Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle
Beverly Cleary
Flat Stanley
Princess Tales by Gail Carson Levine (despite the name, not overly girly - ex. Cinderellis and the Glass Hill).
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Also, depending on the kindergartner:
Boxcar Children
Pippi Longstocking
Bunnicula

Thanks for the helpful suggestions.
DCUM never disappoints. Three real suggestions and the rest snark over audiobooks. You'd think i asked where I should buy weed for them to smoke while they played their iPads as I ignored them in the back of the car.

How would you like me to frame it? 9 year old and 5 year old?

NP. What’s wrong with listening to a good book while they watch the scenery?

Ignore the PP above. Try the “Little House” series — my kids loved listening to those at that age. Excellent voice actors, and you (finally!) get to hear what some of Pa’s songs and fiddle music sound like.

You might want to pause at points to have a discussion about Ma’s (and the U.S. government’s) views on Indians, immigrants, outdated language, etc. But it makes for a good entry point for those issues.
