We recently went to one and my 10 year old twins did not want to wear a suit. We had black chino style pants and black slides that they wear for band at school. I then got black short sleeve dress shirts, and found these silk vests with matching ties on Amazon (one blue and one red). We had two fedoras for them that we got for an event last year. They looked great and they crowd loved their outfits. We got a ton of compliments and people who wanted photos of the kids in their outfits. Bonus, that the kids also loved their outfits and actually wanted to wear them instead of complaining about wearing uncomfortable suits.

For anyone who has bought a suit for a 8-10 year old boy and is going to donate it see if there is a Catholic Church nearby. When kids make their First Communion in 2-3rd grade they need to dress up. Often boys wear suits. Our parish always has suits that have been donated to the program so anyone that can't afford to dress their son they way that they want to has an option to get a suit. Suits are not required but at least half of the boys wear them and it is nice for all to have the option. Our parish will also typically pass on dresses for the girls as well and is a good way to give a flower girl dress another life.

yes, and the idea that the only way to show proper etiquette is by buying a SINGLE USE outfit? This is the height of wastefulness, and has environmental consequences.

Wish i knew you - I have the suit my son wore to a wedding. He looked so handsome - but you're right. It's never been worn since.

I think I bought it at Macy's. I will end up donating it as I do the other clothes but I do feel bad for buying for one time outfit.

+1 This is what we did for various events and it was just fine.

We had a family wedding this year and our son was ten - DH wanted to dress him up so insisted on a new suit from jos a banks. He did look super cute. But there were a bunch of other kids there ages 4-8 and none were wearing suits. Lots of nice chino pants and button up shirts. No one is going to judge a parent not spending money to get a suit for a 8 year old: just fyi.

I ordered one on Amazon for $45.

I rented a suit for my sister’s wedding for my then-8 year old boy. They provided everything - even nice shoes! It was the best thing, since eg grows like a weed and would have outgrown the outfit by the following month.

I got it at Mens Wearhouse.

Navy blazer and tan pants work for most events. I agree on asking neighbors and friends. Appropriate for an 8 year old is not the same as a grown man.

Honestly, I'd start by asking on your local buy nothing group.

I'm generally there to give stuff away, but I've seen people ask for and get boys' dress clothes.

He will literally wear this once - I can rent right? Anyone BTDT and have a rec on where to rent?
