RIT is perfect for this and they invest a ton in left and right brain kids.

The program that PAFA does with Penn?

I don't think Hamilton is a safety for anyone, but they also don't offer engineering.

But you can't really do both there.

Tufts. But not a safety.

Lehigh?

Or LAC like York College would be a true safety.

Cooper Union? Still a tough admit.

I suspect that's a reach too, but we'll investigate. Do you know if they allow double degrees in two different schools?

He cares more about the art than the engineering, in terms of prestige, so he's thinking of VCU and Temple as possible matches/safeties. I'm not sure that anything that requires a portfolio is a safety.

As an alternative, I would tell the kid that you don't have to do both at the same time to pursue both. You can get an undergrad degree in engineering and a MFA afterward. I had a friend who majored in a hard science undergrad and then went on afterward to Berklee College of Music (he's a professional musician now). Sometimes it's easier to focus on the skills when you're doing one thing at a time.

2020 rates of acceptance at CMU:

College of Engineering 17% (but need a very high standardized test math score);

College of Fine Arts School of Art = 23%;

College of Fine Arts (Drama) = just 4%;

College of Fine Arts School of Design = 11% acceptance rate;

College of Fine Arts (music) = 31%.

My kid wants to study visual arts and engineering.

Where else can he find that combo and a two digit acceptance rate?
