I've had two kids go through this process--one self motivated and the other decidedly not.

For BOTH, what helped them the most was a class where they just took a ton of practice tests under 'realistic' conditions I offered the less motivated one private tutors, "summer camps" and classes, but she said she preferred that course, and then just Khan Academy and practice tests on her own. And it seems to have worked-- score is higher than I anticipated, and close to the score of the motivated one (who basically did the same process). (Perhaps it helped that each time she went to the library to take a practice test, I gave her money to eat lunch nearby.)

And, there are many. Mostly, your kid will get out of SAT prep what they our into SAT prep!
