OP thank you for posting this because I too am already starting to think about Cmas and it takes me several months to get my act together. I appreciate the recs in this thread!
I usually do the following:
* "Spritz" cookies, but rolled/cut-out instead of pressed because that's how my mom always made them
* Vanillekipferl, which are such a pain to make but DH's favorite and very tasty
* Chocolate cherry thumbprints
* Pumpkin cookies - yes they feel more Thanksgiving, but they are so good
* Gooey buttercake cookies/bites, because I am from St. Louis
Side note to the poster who asked about puppy chow cookies (though I wasn't the one who mentioned them), they're a spinoff of the puppy chow mix made with Chex, which is really addictive.
