+1! If you aren't interested just don't comment people, please. Geez, DCUM is so full of freaking Heathers sometimes, I swear. OP thank you for posting this because I too am already starting to think about Cmas and it takes me several months to get my act together. I appreciate the recs in this thread!

I usually do the following:

* "Spritz" cookies, but rolled/cut-out instead of pressed because that's how my mom always made them
* Vanillekipferl, which are such a pain to make but DH's favorite and very tasty
* Chocolate cherry thumbprints
* Pumpkin cookies - yes they feel more Thanksgiving, but they are so good
* Gooey buttercake cookies/bites, because I am from St. Louis

Side note to the poster who asked about puppy chow cookies (though I wasn't the one who mentioned them), they're a spinoff of the puppy chow mix made with Chex, which is really addictive.

Have you thought about spring break, or booking your beach house for 2023? Getting family photos done for that holiday card in December. Why? It's September.

Believe it or not, people do advance planning for all sorts of things they want or need to do. Cookies are in the want category, but it might be fun to start thinking or it might be practical Stocking up on butter or chocolate chips, for example. I always watch for sales on baking goods in the fall before Thanksgiving and Christmas drive prices up. Pre-making and freezing dough during the less busy fall months makes holiday baking less time consuming.

Stop being pi$$y and let people discuss the things they want.

This is the basic list I do every year for our family and friends. I make a full batch of each and then make little variety boxes as gifts for our friends and neighbors. We like to have a big cookie plate for Christmas but there is no way we could eat them all ourselves.

Love this…here’s our standards:

Iced cutout sugar cookies
Peanut butter blossoms
Spiced molasses cookies
Oatmeal chip/cranberry
Mexican wedding (snowballs)
Italian Amaretti

Looking for some new ideas

Sometimes: rugelach, biscotti, ricotta cookies

They predict a butter shortage. Buy now and freeze for all your holiday baking, folks!

Cutout sugar cookies, of course. Snickerdoodles and pecan tassies for DH.

These are a tradition in our house. http://www.whatmegansmaking.com/2012/12/triple-chocolate-cranberry-oatmeal-cookies.html

From there we mix it up and usually make one or two other kinds per year. This year I have a goal of pre-making the snickerdoodle and sugar cookie dough and freezing it to make holiday baking easier.
