This. You do not want someone to marry you for your family money.

"Potential" partner? Not at all. Not until potential becomes engaged. Not after the marriage but after engagement for sure, or if not getting married, after you are combining finances if living together. Not melding finances or buying a place with both names on the mortage etc. etc.? Still only "potential" in my book.

That’s not possible if prenups are required.

When I ask when they are available to sign the prenup at the lawyer's office.

Depends how many beneficiaries there are and what the conditions of the trust are. My family trust is much more than that but it benefits my siblings and our five cousins as well. It’s “life changing” for my spouse because we don’t fund 529s and our house down payment was paid out by the trust, but that’s marginal in many ways.

Also depends on the lifestyle of the other partner as to whether it’s life changing. We

At the point of relevance. Do you expect them to sign a prenup? At six months of dating. Does the trust fund down payments? At the budget setting for a home. Don’t make a big deal about it and it won’t be a big deal.

There's always a chance that whatever amount it is, the other person doesn't think it's that much.

I wouldn’t tell them for a long time. I would have them meet your family etc when it’s normal. That should clue them in to the fact that you come from money. But lots of families have money but it’s only inherited not in a trust.

What’s this person’s financial situation? Find out more first. Also, how much is this trust? Is this life changing or you can pay for private school etc?

After they say yes to marrying you.

Like after the wedding, honestly. Don’t marry someone who wants you for your trust fund.

I wouldn’t talk about it until it comes up naturally in the course of a “life together” discussion where money will be a consideration. like if you are discussing what kind of house you would like to live in, or whether he would want to be (or have) a stay at home parent.

Five months or 1 year, whichever is closer to cohabitation.

Assuming it isn't obvious from your current lifestyle, when do you tell a potential partner about this?
