It depends on the item and whether it's from a third-party seller. Kohl's shows up as a return location for most of the things I tend to buy, but often doesn't show up for the things DH buys.

It can depend on your location. I just moved and I only get UPS and Whole Foods, when what I want is Kohls. Kohls doesn’t show up as an option because my new address is “too far” from a kohls store.
There’s an option wayyyy down at the bottom of that return screen where you can change your address. Put the address of a kohls store and it’ll show up as an option.

I've learned not to read too much into the return options offered at a given moment. A few months ago, the regular return process didn't offer me Amazon drop-off (Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods), but those options showed up a few days later. On a more recent return, the return process again didn't offer Amazon drop-off, but I went into a chat session with a chatbot that was able to set up Amazon drop-off. I think the return process is glitchy.

I have same problem. I am only offered UPS or Whole Foods. I live much closer to Kohls but that option is gone and I don’t see a way to add it back.

I'm so glad you asked this, OP. I had the same question today. I just double checked, and sure enough my purchases were from third-party sellers even though it was one-day prime delivery for both separate items that I'm now returning.

The one that I should get a credit for, I have not yet gotten an acknowledgement that Amazon received the return and I have not gotten a credit. The other one was an exchange and I've already gotten the replacement (I think the language there was that they'd charge my credit card if they didn't get the return back within 30 or 60 days).
This also dependsnon the seller. Amazon itself as the seller processes much faster. Other sellers take much longer.

Not all items can be returned eveywhere. Depends if it's third party or amazon itself as the seller and size of item.

I had 3 returns last weekend (as an aside I am starting to see the quality issues everyone has been talking about for months). We live approximately equidistant from a Whole Foods and a UPS store so as long as either of those is an option, I'm good. We're further from Kohls.

Yes, it depends on the seller. If the seller was actually Amazon, you'll get the most options. If the seller is a third party Amazon marketplace seller (and some of them ship with Amazon shipping, so it's harder to tell), then you may have fewer options to return.
I try to check the items and figure out who is the real seller and the return options for purchases. I like to go with known sellers where possible. Then, even if they aren't Amazon, they'll often have reasonable return policies.
I hate that since the pandemic, Amazon is trying harder to obscure who the seller is.

I just tried to initiate a return and the only options I'm being given are: Whole Foods Dropoff, Amazon Dropoff (and the only option there is the same Whole Foods), or Amazon Locker (and every locker near me is greyed out).
WTF?! Is Amazon glitching right now or did they remove their other options of dropping off at a UPS store or Kohls?
