People focus on fit when their kid can't get into a top 20 school. Sorry. Poor people say money can't buy you happiness. Of course it does. Vacations, nice restaurants, etc. It buys experiences which has been shown to be linked to happiness. I don't have enough money so I am not happy as I could be. I have some but not enough.
Among the 20 schools, there are schools that are better fit depends on several factors like program offering/strength, location, ovrall vibe.
You might want to take a look at 21th 22nd or 25th school.
My kid got in a T30 and a T40, but chose a T50 one for fit.
Getting into the college is one step. successfully getting a degree with good 4 years and education is another step.
Fit contributes to the 2nd step.
Both school prestige and fit are important.
