I delivered this spring. I tried to put the mask when people came in to check on me but didn’t alway put it on and definitely not during labor or pushing. I asked if I needed to and they said it was up to me. Spouse had the mask on anytime anyone else was in the room with us. No one ever said anything to me about it.

They are. I’ve had friends who delivered at home in 2020 because of the fear of the hospital taking the baby away if covid positive.

For almost all women the hospitals are sending women home early after delivering due to “covid.”

I wonder if homebirth rates are going up because of this nonsense.

Delivered in Dec 2021 at GW and there was a sort of nominal requirement (especially prior to getting the results of the triage covid test) but no one reminded me about it while I was in labor and I definitely wasn't wearing a mask for most of that. I kept trying to remember pp, but the nurses always wanted to take my temperature so it was honestly easier not to.

I delivered in Feb 2020 and, after testing negative for COVID right after getting to my room, was able to be mask free until I left. my husband wore his whenever anybody else was in the room but it was really a courtesy - they let him take it off for pictures, and some staff told him not to bother if htey saw him putting it on when he walked in.

It is mostly for visitors, not to the patient

I delivered DD in spring 2020, via induction. Masking wasn't required for the induction part (pitocin drip) or active labor, thank goodness. The nurses did tell me and DH we had to mask up when they came in the room for check-ups/rounds. But nothing was required during the actual induction+labor part for me; can't remember if it was required for DH.

This was obviously a while ago, at the height of COVID craziness, so hopefully those restrictions have been relaxed.

I gave birth at VHC in April and didn’t wear one in my room at all (including when not pushing) - nor was I asked to.

Delivered in November 2020 at GW and did wear one, but mostly as a courtesy - it was never requested in the hospital (though yes at drs visits).

Have been told that at VHC currently they do prefer it but are not enforcing.

Masks only required when walking the halls, but no one seemed to be enforcing. Delivered at sibley in august 2022.

I had to do it when delivering and in the hospital in fall 2020 but that was before vaccines were available. Be glad if you don’t have to.

No. This MAY have been a thing at the height of Covid for people who tested positive or had symptoms, but it’s not normal.

I cannot imagine a hospital forcing this, or anyone complying with it, but interested to see responses.

Anyone who’s given birth lately at local hospitals: were you required to mask? How much was it enforced? And at what hospital?
