A lot of the frustration from the teacher end, which is contributing to teachers quitting, is that there are a number of children with special education needs who are not in the best placement for them. A good many special education teachers are expected to serve too many kids with a wide range of needs. I understand the need for inclusion where possible, but if I could pull a couple of kids out of gen ed math a couple of times a week and really work with them, away from the busy classroom, I could help them make progress. But I’m forced to stay in gen ed for the whole math period, as I’m also trying to manage the behavior of the kid who has frequent meltdowns and the two who are ID and have no idea what the teacher is talking about. It’s very frustrating.

"Provision of education to children with disabilities in residence or custody" - that's a very small number. How does this apply to most FCPS students, all those who are neither in residence nor custody?

FCPS is breaking the law by going above ratios in early childhood special education classes. Your child may not be getting the services they are required on their IEP.
