Yeah many privates use traditional schedules.

Science and the arts like block schedules because of set-up time for labs and practice/studio work. However, there are more measured ways of accommodating this. Example - have 40min classes four times a week and an hour class once a week.

At Gunston, their is one period that meets each day but it seems pretty random which class that is for your kid. It can't be math for everyone.

Not all "core classes" are blocks - e.g. my 6th grader has math everyday. Meanwhile my other kids has an elective everyday (5th period).

My kids APS middle school does it and I hate it. It seems especially bad for the 6th grade pre algebra class. It's hard to learn three years of math in one year when your class only meets 2-3 times a week.

FCPS does 90 minute blocks as well. It is way too long and kids can’t concentrate that long.

On another thread this was discussion how teachers can’t teach for a full block, and end up using 2nd half as a study hall for home work.
WHY does APS have long blocks? Our neighbors private school as tradition 45 minute classes, so it can’t be a universal academic theory that long blocks are the way to go.
90 minutes sounds awful, my high school tried it for a year and we hated it and went back. Does FCPS still do 90 min blocks?
