Pretty much all of them after the top 50 are under-rated.

Most colleges are great places with excellent teaching, and every college is perfect for someone.

Don't be afraid to seek them out and measure them up against the students goals.

Where does UMass Amherst fall in the rankings? I feel like it was very well regarded in the 90s when I was applying. And the consortium with the other local schools is such a great thing. Smith was heavily recruiting me, so I did research it a little bit. Didn’t wind up in MA, but I think the schools there are worth a look

The SUNYs are great, but I'm not sure what is the incentive to go there if you're not from New York. Many, many top NYS college students choose them. There's a rough hierarchy, and some are better for certain things than others. Geneseo has a lot of cachet because it's smaller and prettier (and pretty selective). Buffalo is great for engineering. Binghamton draws a lot of outstanding students.

Consider UMass! My DC is there now, got merit aid, and is happy with the quality of classes. Lots of activities and opportunities, and the school has been fantastic in terms of keeping kids informed about what’s going on.

Agree and I have no skin in this game. No relatives have gone there and my kids are already in college. I find every person I hear talk about personal experience with great stories and I see great outcomes. Seems underrated to me.

If you don't mind catholic colleges, I think most of them are underrated except t Georgetown, Notre dame, and Villanova.

Most have small-mid size classes and generally are located in areas that have access to big cities.

This board is so hyper focused on T20 or bust

Some of us have kids that are just looking for a decent school to spend 4 years and get a degree

I have a little known SUNY on my daughter’s target list - Fredonia. They are pretty well known for their arts program.

I’m pretty excited to take her to visit Meredith College next week. I honestly think it will be a great fit for her.
