We use $1k/day total for everything as a rough guideline. Some trips are less, others are a bit more. Obviously we don’t spend the $1k/day evenly - some days costs more than others or there are 1 time costs like airfare. But $7k usually gets us a very nice week trip everything included.

We have done a week in a very basic cabin in a driveable location for $3000 all in and enjoyed it.

An awesomely exhorbitant week abroad or in Hawaii where we ate what we wanted and did tons of activities was $15k.

Both were airbnbs. I think you can finagle anything in between.

Yup.

Air transport aside and assuming one hotel room for 4 or a 2 bedroom VRBO/AirBnB, I'd say you can manage for

$750 a day or $5250 a week (budget)
$1000 a day or $7000 a week (moderate)
$2000 a day or $14,000 a week (luxury)

Pick your accommodations first and then back into the food, entertainment, and ground transport. Remember budget is like a 1-2 star hotel in a less than ideal location.

Are you kidding? Please link to 1-2 star hotels in any of the areas mentioned that are charging $750/night.

I think she means for everything. Hotel, food, activities.

Miami and Rome won’t cost anywhere near the same - which are those numbers for?
OP, this takes two basic searches: one on the Hilton website and one on Expedia for flights.

Our rooms at the St. Regis in both cities were comparable in price.

That’s not a 1-star hotel.

Hey op. This is sort of off topic, but we stayed at the linked hotel based on recommendations from dcum. It was perfect for us (two elementary kids). Easy drive in San Diego plus California beach resort. Shopping in La Jolla. Dinner in the Oacific plus super cute restaurants 5 min walk from the hotel. If you are considering a socal vacation, I’d highly recommend it.

I haven't traveled much since I had kids, so I'm trying to budget for future trips. How much do typically spend on a weeklong vacation for a family of 4? I understand that will vary a lot, but what is a range?

Also, how much would a week at each of the following destinations cost? Assuming 1 hotel room that's more expensive than a motel but not the Four Seasons.

- Miami, staying near the beach
- Southern California
- Hawaii
- Rome / Florence / Milan
